A primer is the first coat that goes onto a model after it has been assembled and sanded. It unifies a surface made up of different materials, gives the paint something to hold on to and makes visible the flaws that cannot be seen on bare plastic: joints that are not fully sanded, scratches from a file or fingerprints. Repairing them at this stage takes a couple of minutes, whereas under a finished paint job every one of them shows.
A black base darkens the coats laid over it and deepens the shadows in wing roots, in landing gear bays and in all the corners an airbrush can only reach at an angle. You will also use it wherever the result is meant to be rich and dark, or when you build the paint up from a dark base toward the lighter areas.
The primer is ready for spraying with an airbrush. Stir the bottle thoroughly before use. First wash the model in lukewarm soapy water and degrease it, otherwise the coat will not hold. Spray in two or even three thin coats; a heavy application floods the fine scribing and the rivets. Let the base dry completely before painting.
The package holds the primer. The thinner, paints and spraying equipment are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
