The round brush Professional Round Brush Kolinsky (2/0) from the manufacturer Amazing Art is set with natural Kolinsky sable hair, that is the winter coat of the Siberian weasel. That coat is prized because it is springy, draws together into a sharp tip and picks up more thinned paint than comparable synthetic hair. Size 2/0 is the largest of the finest trio. It still has a sharp tip, but the bundle picks up markedly more paint, so besides lines it can also be used for layering smaller areas. The manufacturer supplies the Kolinsky range from size 5/0 up to size 8.
Natural hair is more sensitive to handling than synthetics. Do not let paint dry in it, do not soak it up to the ferrule and do not use it for glues or loose pigments. For aggressive lacquer paints and their thinners reach for a synthetic brush instead, as they make the hair harden and break. Wash acrylics out with soapy water, draw the hair into a tip and store it tip up.
For figure painters who build volume by layering, and for modelers who do both detail and a smaller area with one brush. For hairline strokes the 2/0 is one step coarser than the 5/0 of the same range.
Paints, thinners and brush cleaner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Ventilate when working with solvent thinners and cleaners, as they are flammable.
