A white opaque polystyrene strip with a cross section of nought point seven five by one and a half millimeters and a length of 35 centimeters. It is a small size that suits places where the detail should be noticeable but must not overpower the surface. The material is the same as in plastic kits, so it is glued with the usual cement for plastic and can be sanded.
A thin strip bends easily, so lay it against the model whole and tack it down at a single point first. Only once it is straight should you run glue along its whole length. For shorter pieces, always cut a little extra and level it with a sanding block after gluing, because measuring to the millimeter at the cut usually does not work out. In corners, butt the strips together and fill the seam with putty.
When you need to sink a strip into a surface, first scribe a groove of the same width. The profile will sit in it with no risk of shifting and the seam around it will be minimal.
When cutting, work with a sharp knife on a cutting mat and do not inhale the sanding dust.
