A styrene I-section girder 6.3 mm high, with a piece 35 cm long. For lintels, trusses and crane girders.
Responsibility details are not available.
The I section differs from the letter H in its proportions: the web is taller and the flanges narrower, so the girder looks slim and from the side merges into a single vertical line. The section is 6.3 mm high and one piece measures 35 cm. In HO 1:87 it would be a girder around 55 cm tall, and in 1:35 a section of around 22 cm - both of which match real rolled girders.
Most often it serves as a lintel over a gate, as a support for the floor of a loading ramp or as the runway beneath the trolley of an overhead crane in a workshop. It also suits a lattice truss well: the upper and lower chords are cut from the profile and diagonals of thinner material are set between them. The leftover ends go to the footings of columns or to chocks under the wheels of a parked vehicle. Anyone modeling a ruin will appreciate that a bent and twisted girder can be shaped from the profile - just soften it lightly over a candle flame and twist it carefully.
You can keep a structure running straight by drawing an axis on a board beforehand and laying the parts against it; styrene likes to turn slightly as it dries. A drop of thin cement for plastics along the contact area is enough to join the parts. An angled cut at the end comes out more accurately if the profile is clamped between two sticks and the saw is run along their edge. Any irregularities are then trued up with a fine file, pulling from the web outward to the edge of the flange, never the other way.
One piece 35 centimeters long is supplied.
