A round tube 4.0 millimeters in diameter in white polystyrene. A medium size for pipework, posts and cylindrical parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
Four millimeters is a size that suits most cylindrical elements in the common modeling scales: pipework, posts, chimneys, smaller tanks and the bodies of small objects. The hollow section also lets you run a wire through the inside and turn the part into a load-bearing element of the structure.
The cleanest cut comes from rotating the tube against the blade with gradually increasing pressure. The squareness of the edge is then trued up on sandpaper laid on a tabletop. A round section cannot be bent without heating, but under heat the tube collapses easily, so it pays to put a wire inside to hold the shape.
Go over the surface with the finest abrasive before painting. Production leaves lengthwise marks on the outside, which a gloss coat emphasizes and which are more distracting on a curved surface than anywhere else. One piece measures 35 centimeters and is sold on its own.
For tanks and cylinders it pays to cap the ends with an offcut of sheet and sand the transition into a curve. A tube cut off square looks like raw stock, whereas a rounded end gives the part the shape of a real vessel.
