Four lacquer paints from the orange line for British aircraft in North African and Mediterranean camouflage.
Responsibility details are not available.
British squadrons adapted their usual finish for the desert theater: the upper surfaces received a combination of dark brown and middle sand, while the underside lightened to an azure blue matching the local sky. These three shades form the core of the set and the fourth paint covers the typical gray-green of the cockpit interior. This is how Hurricanes, tropicalized Spitfires and Kittyhawks of the desert units looked.
The set belongs to the orange line, which the manufacturer built on lacquer rather than on a water-thinnable dispersion. It is applied with an airbrush in light coats, thinned with lacquer thinner of the same brand and dries quickly to a smooth matte surface. That surface takes later washes and varnishing well, but it calls for extraction and respiratory protection.
Sand and harsh sun drove the finish quickly toward fading, bare metal showed through on the leading edges and dark streaks ran back from the exhausts. A few extra minutes spent on the difference in shade in the middle of large areas therefore do more for the finished model than the most careful final wash.
What you are buying is the paints only. A model, thinner and spraying equipment are not included.
