SANDING SPONGE # 500

A sanding sponge of 500 grit (Amazing Art)

Flexible abrasive foam with a 500 grain. This grade is used where shaping is no longer the point but the quality of the surface is: it refines an area after finer cleaning up and suits careful sanding between two coats of paint, when a speck of dust or an irregularity in the spray has to be knocked back without rubbing through to the plastic. The foam follows rounded surfaces, so no flat spots arise on the curves. It serves on plastic, on resin and on metal, and just as well on printed parts.

Use

• For refining a surface after 400 grit, right before painting.
• For careful sanding of dried primer or an intermediate coat of paint.
• For knocking back a speck of dust that has dried in the spray.
• Work almost without pressure, with just the weight of the sponge.
• Wipe the surface after sanding before you lay the next coat down.

Who the sanding sponge is for

For modelers who refine a surface under glossy paint or under decals, and for work on small parts where a hard block does not sit. For removing sprue gates and heavy flash this grade is far too fine; it would take material away slowly and risk smoothing detail out. When sanding between coats of paint, proceed carefully and check the surface against the light.

Sanding creates dust from plastic, resin and dried paint. Work in a ventilated space, protect your airways with resin and wash or wipe the parts before the next spraying. Abrasive foam can be used again once cleaned.
