The self-adhesive stencil Self-adhesive stencils - Hex Camo from the Spanish manufacturer Green Stuff World serves to transfer a hexagonal pattern onto the surface of a model. The stencil is laid onto a finished ground, holds on it by its own self-adhesive layer, and the paint is applied through the cut-out grid. Once it is lifted off, a regular net of hexagons with sharp edges is left on the area, which would be very hard to repeat by hand at the same pitch across a whole surface.
It helps most where a pattern should look machine-regular. The self-adhesive build, against a stencil laid on loose, limits paint creeping under the edge, so the edges stay clean even on areas that are not perfectly flat. It will be reached for by modelers of science fiction vehicles, by players unifying the look of a whole unit, and by makers of dioramas.
Work on a perfectly dry ground, apply the paint in thin coats and lift the stencil off while the paint is fresh. The size of the sheet, the number of motifs and the material of the stencil are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging, so go by its data.
