What the mold is for

A silicone mold is an aid with which you make the parts you need yourself, and that repeatedly and the same every time. You press modeling putty into the cavity, let it cure and take the finished part out. Flexible silicone can be bent away from a casting, so even a shape with undercut edges comes out of the mold without your having to break it. The mold therefore lasts for many uses and you decide the number of parts yourself according to how many the setting takes.

Work tips

• choose the putty according to the instructions of the maker of the mold and count on its setting time
• press it in in smaller portions, so that no air is left in the corners of the cavity
• draw the excess off level with the surface of the mold before it cures
• release the finished part by bending the mold, not by pulling on a thin part of the casting
• wipe the mold out after work, as residue of putty would print into the next part
• true up the edges of the finished part with a sharp blade and sand them
