AK interactive SMOKE, a weathering pencil for smoke marks

A single AK interactive weathering pencil in the SMOKE shade. It is a modeling aid for weathering, not a kit. The lead is semi-waxy and soluble in water: you draw with it dry and then blend the mark with a damp brush into a subtle veil. Compared with pure black, SMOKE is softer and more translucent: it does not cover the base color, only dirties it, which creates a convincing impression of settled exhaust deposits.

Use

• Smoke marks above the exhausts of aircraft and military vehicles: draw along the line of the airflow and blend backwards.
• Sooting around nozzles and gun muzzles, where pure black is too hard and unnatural.
• Soot on the fuselage and on surfaces: build it up in layers, as the tone can be graded by repeating the stroke.
• Softening black effects that are too sharp: a pass with SMOKE evens the transition out.
• Control over the result: you draw exactly where you want; nothing mixes or drips as it does with liquid effects.

Who it is for

For everyone who wants smoke effects without an airbrush. A beginner cannot come to grief with the pencil, because you move toward the result in small steps and, until the effect is varnished, it can be blended or wiped away with a damp brush. Advanced modelers use it to refine details where spraying would be too coarse or masking needlessly laborious. Suitable for aircraft models, military vehicles, ships and model railroads. It works best over a matte base.

Keep out of reach of children. Do not breathe the dust produced when sharpening and sanding the lead.
