Mil Mi-8MT 1:48 is a set of cut masking stencils from Eduard for the glazing of a model of this helicopter. It replaces slow masking with tape and gives sharp frames around the glazing.

This set of cut masking stencils from the Czech maker Eduard is intended for a model of the Mil Mi-8MT helicopter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit, nor accessory parts: you get self-adhesive masks that you stick onto the glazing of the model and take off after spraying. The frames then come out straight and sharp, which masking with tape by hand achieves only with a great deal of patience.
The Mi-8 has extensive glazing on the cockpit and the fuselage, with a large number of frames and transitions. Cutting them from tape by hand means hours of work and an almost certain chance that one of the frames will go astray. Cut masks come with the shapes finished, so they are applied exactly in place, and the risk that solvent from the paint seeps under tape that does not sit flat is gone as well. Besides saving time, the greatest gain is precisely the cleanness of the edges, which shows at once on a finished model.
Clean and degrease the glazing before applying the masks, so that they hold. Lift a mask with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and lay it down by one edge first, then press it down with a toothpick or a gloved finger. Spray the paint in several thin coats; a thick coat cracks when the mask is removed and tears the edge. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, not days later, and pull at a shallow angle so that the finish does not peel. If you are not sure, you can spray the frames with the interior shade first and only then with the exterior one.
The set contains masking stencils. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. The double-sided version of the same type is a separate item.
