Six acrylic shades for the equipment of the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War. It contains a protective green of the Soviet pattern, khaki, a light greenish khaki, desert sand and silvery gray.
Responsibility details are not available.
During the civil war the government in Spain sought equipment wherever it could, and the main deliveries finally came from the Soviet Union. With them came the local way of applying a single protective color, which differed markedly from the more varied schemes of the opposing side. It is precisely this contrast that makes Republican vehicles and aircraft a rewarding modeling subject.
Inside there are two shades of protective green of the Soviet type, a khaki, a lighter greenish khaki, a desert sand and a cool silvery gray. The first pair will cover the fuselages and hulls of the imported equipment, the khaki tones will serve on stowed gear and on parts affected by use, the sand on dusty lower areas and the gray on the undersurfaces of aircraft.
The selection will suit light tanks and fast half-tracked machines of Soviet origin as well as the fighters and bombers of the day. It is, however, usable outside Spain too, because the same protective green appears on Soviet equipment long after 1939.
Apply onto an evened-out base so that the green tones cover uniformly; without one they tend to show through. The work goes from the darkest tone to the lightest, with the lighter khaki serving well to lighten horizontal surfaces. Before decals, coat the surface with gloss clear and only at the end even the surface out with matte. Do the dusting of the lower areas with the sand tone very much thinned and in several passes, because one thick layer looks more like a new coat of paint than like a deposit of dust.
