A finished model laid straight on a shelf merges with the surface, and a small figure on it almost disappears. A plinth lifts it out of the plane, bounds it and gives it an edge from which the eye starts to read: that is the unobtrusive thing thanks to which the same model in a display case suddenly looks finished. At the same time the model can be picked up safely by it without touching the painted surface, which is useful when carrying it and at a competition.
The top is square, 8 by 8 centimeters, that is 64 square centimeters. That is room for one figure together with a small piece of terrain, for a bust, for a small vehicle in a smaller scale or for an arrangement of several small features. A model of a tracked vehicle in 1:35 scale measures over twenty centimeters, so it will not fit on this area; for large pieces choose a plinth with a longer edge.
For modelers who want to display a finished piece and for collectors whose concern is a uniform look to a display case. The same dimension of plinths on several models side by side looks calmer than an arrangement of various surfaces and they are easier to rearrange.
