Static grass 2 mm, brown, 50 g package

Static grass is a loose scenery material, not a kit: short fibers 2 mm long that are applied to a substrate coated with glue. If you use an electrostatic applicator, the fibers are charged, stand upright to the substrate and once the glue has dried they hold upright like real grass. The package contains 50 g of material, which with sensible use covers a large area. A length of 2 mm corresponds to low, trodden-down or mown growth — in large modeling scales that means grass around seven centimeters tall, in smaller scales a low grass carpet.

Use in a diorama

The brown shade represents dry, withered or trodden-down grass: wheel ruts on a field track, the trampled area around a vehicle position, the surroundings of farm buildings, parched areas at the end of summer and in autumn, burned spots. Brown is also excellent as the lower layer under green grass — natural growth is not green down at the ground but brown, and it is precisely a two-layer application that gives a scene depth.

Application tips

Coat the area with PVA wood glue or with a special grass glue. Hold the applicator a few centimeters above the surface and sprinkle the grass steadily rather than all at once. Once dry, vacuum or shake off the excess and use it again. For a lively result, layer two or three shades over one another and let them blend irregularly — a uniform area of one color looks artificial. Fibers sprinkled without an applicator stay lying down and serve as dry litter or mown grass. Do not breathe the dusty material in and work in a well-ventilated room.
