About product

Masking strips 1.2 mm on a sheet of 135 x 90 mm

A universal masking sheet from the brand Omask with pre-cut straight strips 1.2 mm wide. The material is yellow masking tape. It is not a set cut to the outline of a particular kit but a stock of strips from which you take exactly as many as you need at the time. A width of 1.2 mm is a universal compromise between a fine line and a clearly visible stripe, so it comes into its own from small scales to large models. The range offers the same sheets in widths from 0.6 to 2.0 mm, so you can put a set together according to the scales you build in. Check how many strips are on the sheet and how long they are on the packaging.

Use

  • dividing lines between camouflage fields with a crisp transition
  • the edging of control surfaces, covers and doors
  • decorative lines and stripes on cars and motorcycles
  • masking narrow stripes on a fuselage and on a vehicle body
  • completing a ready-made mask where an adjoining area needs covering

How to work with the strips

Lay a strip on a perfectly dry, smooth coat of paint; fresh paint should not be masked, because it tears when the tape is lifted off. Once it is stuck down, press the edge firmly with a wooden toothpick, for instance, so that paint does not seep under it. Spray in thin coats and rather in several passes, as a heavy coat creates a noticeable step at the edge. Lift the tape off shortly after the paint has set, slowly and at a sharp angle in a direction away from the masked edge. On curved areas it is better to lay the strip in shorter runs than to force it into a curve.

Who the sheet is for

  • modelers who spray multi-color camouflage with a crisp transition
  • builders of cars and motorcycles with lines and stripes on the bodywork
  • everyone who does not want to cut straight strips from masking tape by hand
  • work with an airbrush and with a brush alike, as the sheet is not tied to one technique

The package contains masking material only. Paints, varnish, a model and tools are not part of it. On a delicate coat, test the adhesion on a hidden area first.

FAQ

Check the exact number and the length of the strips on the packaging. The sheet measures 135 x 90 mm and all the strips on it have a uniform width of 1.2 mm.

They are two forms of the same set in the same widths. This one is of yellow masking tape, which is clearly visible on a model and easy to find; the other form is of Oramask masking film. Which material suits you better is a matter of habit, so it pays to try both.

It is not. It is a universal sheet that you lay on a model yourself according to your own needs. Masks cut to the outline of a particular model are available separately for the individual scales.

Yes, glazing is commonly masked. Press the tape down only enough for it to hold, lift it off soon after the paint has dried and then handle the clear part as little as possible, so that it does not get scratched.
