Ten pieces of plastic strip of rectangular section 0.75 x 5.00 mm, with one piece 350 mm long. The material is polystyrene, that is the same kind of plastic as in injection-molded kits. This is neither a model nor a set of parts for a particular kit, but raw material for building your own.

Five millimeters of width at a rigid thickness makes this size the most productive strip for flat work. One strip covers a substantial piece of surface, and because the material holds its shape, the surface will not sag after gluing even over a longer span.

• boarding, plank decking and wide sheathing in a diorama
• the sides and lids of larger crates and superstructures
• a base plate or an inner frame onto which further parts are assembled

Cutting and gluing

With a wide strip, guiding the cut is the key. Press a metal ruler down along its whole length, run the knife over it lightly several times and finally snap the material. Level the edge on abrasive paper laid on a flat board, otherwise a visible gap will appear between two strips. When you build a surface from several pieces side by side, glue them to one another on a flat surface first and only then glue the whole to the model. It is glued with a thin cement for polystyrene; once cured, the joint stands up to sanding, filling and ordinary painting.
