The Tamiya MEDIUM brush is a round (pointed) modeling brush from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. The MEDIUM size is a versatile middle size: it holds enough paint that an area does not dry out mid-stroke, yet the point is still fine enough to reach into interior corners or onto small equipment. If you are building up a brush collection gradually, this is the size a modeler ends up holding most often. It is not a kit or a paint — it is a tool for applying paint.
The difference is in how much paint the brush holds and how fine a line it can make. Use MEDIUM for medium-sized areas, interiors and equipment, i.e. wherever you want a smooth stroke and an even coat. SMALL, on the other hand, is for the finest work — instruments, figures' eyes and faces, or thin lines. It is practical to own both sizes, since painting a large area with a fine brush means strokes that dry too fast and leave visible streaks.
