A display plinth with a conically tapered body and a square footprint of 2.5 x 2.5 cm. It serves so that a finished bust or a small figure does not stand straight on a shelf but has a clearly bounded place of its own. The word Black in the name refers to the dark version, which creates no distracting element around the model.
The most common mistake in choosing is to reach for a plinth that is too large. A wide board under a small bust draws attention away from the model, and in the resulting composition the model then looks smaller than it really is. The smallest size of the range is therefore suitable where the plinth is to be only a quiet frame: with miniatures, small busts and single figures. As a guide, only a narrow margin should be left at the sides of the model, not a wide empty field.
The tapered shape raises the model a little higher, so that in photography the lens does not point from above downward and the model can be shot at eye level. The dark version at the same time separates the model from the background and creates a clear lower edge of the composition in a photograph. In a display case a plinth gives a collection order, because models placed on the same type of plinth look like one whole, even though each of them was made at a different time.
