Toolmakers Parallel Clamps are precision clamps with parallel jaws for holding parts firmly during gluing and machining.
Responsibility details are not available.
Clamps whose jaws stay parallel as they are tightened. An ordinary clamp tilts as the opening grows and seats only on its edge, so the pressure acts at a single point and the part tips out of place. Parallel jaws seat over their whole face, so the clamped part stays where you want it and is not marked by the imprint of an edge.
Put a piece of softer material between the jaw and the model, otherwise even a parallel jaw will leave a mark on the plastic. Tighten only as far as the joint seats; too much pressure will crush soft plastic. With photo-etched parts, use the straight edge of the jaws as a bending brake, and the part will fold along an exact line. After work, clean the thread and lubricate it lightly, as dried paint and filings make the action stiff.
On a long joint it pays to have two or three clamps and to space them along its length. A single clamp in the middle grips the joint at one point only and the ends open up.
Keep the clamps out of the reach of children and watch your fingers while tightening them.
