A large package of foam track bed for HO: 36 strips of 60.9 cm, together just under 22 meters of line. It damps noise and stays permanently springy.
Responsibility details are not available.
Anyone building a more extensive line soon finds that foam bed runs out faster than rails. This package therefore aims at a build as a whole: 36 strips together will do for just under 22 meters of line, which covers even a larger layout including turnouts and a station throat.
Foam has three advantages over cork. It does not have to be soaked before bending, so it can be worked with at once. It stays permanently springy and does not grow brittle, whereas cork dries out over the years, cracks and starts to crumble. And above all it absorbs sound better, because a springy core does not carry the vibration of the wheels into the board, which would otherwise work as a sounding box.
The height of the bed corresponds to an ordinary cork underlay, so both can be combined on one layout and joined without a step. That suits when extending an older line.
The strip form is an advantage precisely in a curve and in cramped places. A strip bends to the radius needed without the inner edge rippling and in curves of a small radius it holds its shape better than a wide sheet, which would have to be notched.
It is glued with foam glue and held with pins into the foam until it dries. Solvent glues are not suitable, because they attack the material.
Each piece is 60.9 cm long, 4.44 cm wide and 5 mm high. The width corresponds to the track in HO, that is the scale 1:87. A longer stretch is made up of strips butted together.
