The DSPIAE 2.1 mm tungsten steel drill bit is a single modeling bit for plastic. Looked after properly it lasts considerably longer than when it is tossed into a drawer among the other tools.
Responsibility details are not available.
A single diameter from the DSPIAE modeling range. It drills into the plastic of kits and is held in a hand pin vise or a micro drill. According to the name, the material is tungsten steel and the size 2.1 mm.
The most common reason a modeling bit stops cutting is not a worn cutting edge but clogging. Plastic chips pack into the flutes, and at higher speeds melted residue sticks to the edge itself. The bit then merely strokes the surface and the hole stops getting deeper.
The remedy is simple. After every longer spell of drilling, clean the flutes out, carefully peel the melted plastic off and leave the bit dry. It should be stored so that the tip does not touch other metal; the original packaging or a block with holes is ideal, not a shared drawer with tweezers and pliers. It is precisely the rubbing against other tools that kills the tip faster than the drilling itself.
While drilling, also pull the bit out of the hole from time to time and clear the chips away. Drilling the whole hole in one go means the material builds up inside and presses on the walls.
For the modeler who drills regularly and wants a particular diameter at hand in usable condition, not a dulled piece from a set broken up long ago.
Sharp tip, store out of the reach of children. Do not breathe plastic chips, and sweep the bench after drilling rather than blowing it clear with your mouth.
