About product

DSPIAE tungsten steel drill bit, 2.7 mm diameter

A tungsten steel drill bit of 2.7 mm diameter for drilling into plastic models and soft materials. Tungsten steel is very hard and holds its edge for a long time, while the generous room for chip clearance lowers the resistance as it bites into plastic. The hole comes out clean and accurate, without melting or fraying. This heavier diameter is intended for larger holes and load-bearing mounts.

Use

  • Drilling larger holes for heavy pins, axles and accessories.
  • Preparing load-bearing mounts for parts and stands.
  • Opening up larger gun muzzles and nozzles.
  • Fitted into a hand holder (pin vise) or a compatible drill.

Who it is for

For modelers who need accurate holes of a larger diameter. Tell the bits apart by diameter; this one is 2.7 mm.

Drill slowly and without side pressure; hard tungsten steel is brittle and can break if levered or bent. At this heavier diameter, pilot-drill the hole with a smaller bit first.

FAQ

This bit is 2.7 mm in diameter and suits larger holes and load-bearing mounts. For fine detail, choose a finer diameter.

At a larger diameter it is advisable to pilot-drill the hole with a smaller bit first and then open it out, so that the plastic does not crack and the hole comes out accurate.

It is very hard and holds its edge longer than ordinary steel, so a hole in plastic comes out clean. It is more brittle, though, so do not push it sideways.
