Fujimi Type 97 Chi-Ha with the new turret is a cute distorted kit of the Japanese medium tank in its late production version. This is not a scale model — the shortened proportions give the tank a playful look.

This kit from the line of cute distorted models of the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi captures the medium tank Type 97 Chi-Ha in its late production version with the new turret. The model is in no scale — the proportions are deliberately shortened and enlarged in favor of the turret and the running gear, so the result comes across as a likeable caricature of the real machine. Even so the characteristic features of the subject remain, and you will recognize the tank with certainty.
The Type 97 Chi-Ha was the most widespread Japanese medium tank of the Second World War. The original version carried a short 57 mm gun; experience in combat called for more vigorous anti-tank armament, and so from 1942 the machines received a new turret with a more powerful 47 mm anti-tank gun. It is precisely this later form, known as the Shinhoto Chi-Ha, meaning the one with the new turret, that this kit captures.
The build is simple and quick, suitable even as a first encounter with a plastic model. Anyone who wants more can paint the model in the Japanese multi-color camouflage of ocher, green and brown — on the rounded shapes it comes out well even when brushed on. A dark wash around the rivets and the hatches will give a toy-looking machine a surprising depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
