The insides of landing gear doors, hatches and service covers are the boundary surface between the outside and the interior — and the light gray Lifecolor Grey FS36495 is well set for them.

Where the outside ends and the interior begins, a surface arises that is often forgotten: the inner side of landing gear doors, hatches and service covers. Yet the viewer sees it first, because it is open outward and daylight falls on it. A light gray shade with a reference to the Federal Standard in its name is natural for this role, because it lies between the light of the outside and the gloom of a bay.
The inside of a door is lit, but at the same time it carries the traces of what goes on inside: staining from service fluids, wear from the mechanism and the dirt picked up on closing. If you paint it the same as the bay, the model loses its believability at first glance. It works well to give the inner sides of covers a lighter tone than the deep space behind them and to support the difference with a fine dark wash around the stiffeners.
For modelers who build aircraft with the landing gear down and want the doors and the bay to hold together without merging. The shade is usable on outer surfaces as well.
Keep out of the reach of children, and make sure fresh air is coming in while you work.
