The darkest tone in an interior is not meant to be black — Lifecolor Dark Grey FS36081 is a dark gray with which shadow is made on the floors of bays, behind panels and in the corners of a fighting compartment.
Responsibility details are not available.
Shadow inside a model cannot be made with black. A black area has no tone, swallows all the detail, and in a small space all that is left of it is a hole in which the eye cannot tell whether it is a centimeter deep or ten. A dark gray with a reference to the American Federal Standard in its name does what black ought to do, but it keeps its color, so shape can still be read on it.
The simplest procedure is to lay it on before the lighter tones: first all the places that are to stay in shadow are darkened, and only then is the base shade laid over them so that the edges show through. A soft transition forms that cannot be made afterwards. The second option is to use the dark gray at the very end as deliberate darkening of gaps and deep places. Both ways work, but do not mix them in one space — the interior then looks inconsistent.
For modelers who want the depth of an interior painted, not merely suggested. It comes into its own in aircraft bays as much as in the fighting compartments of vehicles.
Keep out of the reach of children. Work where you can ventilate.
