The light neutral gray Light Grey FS36251 from Lifecolor is the shade for the large continuous areas of ship models: the sides of hulls above the waterline and the extensive walls of superstructures.
Responsibility details are not available.
An acrylic shade from the basic range of shades by the Italian brand Lifecolor. The name declares a light neutral gray and the number of the American FS36251 color standard, so you know which tone it is even when you compare it with a shade from another brand.
Why on a hull in particular
The side of a large ship is the most demanding area a model offers. It is long, slightly curved and has nowhere to hide a mistake, so even a difference nobody would see on the wing of an aircraft shows on it. A light gray is honest and rewarding at once in this: it will show an irregularity, certainly, but it leaves the drawing of the plating and the seams legible even in a display case, where dark tones merge into one mass. On large areas it works well to lay it on in thin layers from the top down and deliberately leave it a little short of covering in the places where shadow is to come later.
For modelers of warships and civilian ships who work with large areas and want their starting gray firmly anchored by a standard number. It also comes into its own away from ships, anywhere a light neutral gray tone without a warm or a blue cast is needed.
