About product

Soviet Army 7K Green Yellow FS23578

A yellow-green tone of the Soviet army palette, listed as 7K and with the number of the American Federal Standard 23578 added in the name. Against the classic dark protective green it is noticeably lighter and warmer, and that is exactly what makes it interesting for a modeler dealing with the engine, the exhaust, the barrel and the running gear of a vehicle: the lighter the surrounding surface, the more sharply the eye reads every metal detail beside it.

How to get the impression of metal out of it

Metal on a model is not made by gloss but by a difference in brightness and the sharpness of an edge. Lay narrow dark strips along the edges of the hatches, on the leading edge of a mudguard and on the upper run of the track onto a light yellow-green surface, and the eye reads them as exposed sheet metal, even though there is not a single metallic paint in the whole build. The same principle works on a barrel: a lighter tone at the muzzle and a darker one at the breech end gives the cylinder volume without a single silver pigment.

Where the color belongs

  • Soviet and captured vehicles of the Second World War and the postwar era.
  • A light surface under later metal and soot effects on the engine and the exhaust.
  • Brightening the upper surfaces of the turret and hull, where the plate is rubbed most.
  • Crates, jerrycans and small equipment meant to stand off from the hull.

Who the color is for

For the modeler who does not want to lay down one flat color but builds the surface in layers. The ground matters more than expected: on a smooth glossy base the shade looks richer and darker, on a rougher matte ground the light is scattered and the same color looks a step lighter. Before you start on the whole vehicle it pays to try it on a patch with the same surface as the model.

Keep out of the reach of children. Ensure ventilation when working with an airbrush and protect your airways.

FAQ

It is listed in the Soviet army palette as 7K, so the first choice is Soviet and captured vehicles. As a light earthy tone, though, it also serves elsewhere where a surface is meant to stand off from darker parts.

Do not work with gloss but with brightness. On a light surface the eye reads narrow dark strips along the edges of hatches, on the mudguards and on the running gear as exposed sheet metal, because what decides is sharp contrast, not a metallic pigment.

Yes. On a smooth glossy ground the shade looks richer and darker; on a rough matte one the light is scattered and the color looks lighter. A test patch with the same surface as the model saves surprises.
