The cool blue-gray Finnish WWII Army Siniharmaa N: 05 Blue Grey from the Lifecolor acrylic line belongs to the Finnish army palette. Its blue cast makes it an excellent tone for barrels, breeches and covers meant to read as cold and metallic.

A blue-gray shade of the Finnish army coding, listed as Siniharmaa 05. The Finnish sini means blue and harmaa gray, so the name describes exactly what it is: a gray pushed to the cold side of the spectrum. For a modeler that matters more than it seems, because it is precisely the blue cast that tells metal apart from dust and mud.
Steel, cast iron and hardened plate look cold on a scale model, whereas rust, grease and a layer of soil go into warm brown tones. Lay a blue-gray tone on a barrel, a breech, a transmission cover or the plate above the engine and leave the surrounding parts warmer, and the eye reads the difference at once as a difference of material. It works the other way round too: a narrow strip of blue-gray along a scrape on an otherwise brown side looks like freshly exposed metal.
For the modeler who likes control over the temperature of colors and does not want to substitute gloss for the impression of metal. It pays to watch the ground: on a smooth glossy surface the blue undertone strengthens and the shade reads darker and cooler, on a matte grainy surface it lightens and comes closer to a neutral gray. Whoever knows that difference can use it as one more tool.
