The lighter member of the trio of Dunkelgelb shades, Dunkelgelb Flashed Shade from the Lifecolor acrylic line, serves to brighten the upper surfaces and the edges. That is exactly what lifts sheet metal shapes, rivets and the projections of the running gear out of a flat yellow.

The lightest position of the German dark yellow, the base shade of German vehicles from 1943 on. Lifecolor lists it as Flashed Shade, the brightened variant of the same tone, which complements the base shade and its dark counterpart. On a model it is not intended for the whole vehicle but for work with light.
Sheet and cast surfaces are recognized on a scale model by the way light lies on them. The upper surfaces of the engine deck, the edges of the mudguards, the rivet heads, the hatch hinges and the tips of the drive sprocket teeth get both the most sun and the most abrasion in reality. The brightened shade applied only to these points draws them out of the surface and gives the vehicle a volume that would otherwise have to come from gloss. For technical parts this is essential, because on the running gear and the engine grille it is the difference in brightness, not the color, that decides the legibility of the shape.
For the modeler of late-war German vehicles who builds a surface in layers and is not content with one flat color. Reckon with the ground: on a smooth glossy base the brightening seems weaker and has to be graded up, on a matte grainy surface it comes forward quickly and is easily overdone. Work in small steps, then, and look at the finished surface under the same light the model will be displayed in.
