The shade UA427 from the Lifecolor line is named after the uniforms of the United States Army and carries an olive green tone. The olive in this sense is not one exact color but rather a family of subdued tones: the fabric differed by maker, by batch and by the degree of fading, so two shades can stand side by side on one figure and it still looks convincing. This one is listed in the family as the variant with a green cast.
The main use is painting figures: blouses, trousers, headgear and the canvas parts of kit. It also serves on bags, tarpaulins, shelter halves and blankets on vehicles, that is wherever fabric is meant to look different from painted plate. On a figure the shade is usually not left uniform: it is brightened on the ridges of the folds and darkened in the depths, or the fine modeling disappears.
Stir the paint before work, as the pigment settles at the bottom. On figures, applying it in several light coats instead of one heavy one is what works, because a heavy coat floods the engraved detail of the folds. The transitions between light and shadow can be built by gradually adding a lighter or darker tone to the base shade. For the airbrush, thin the paint with the thinner intended for this line as instructed by the manufacturer on the packaging. It is advisable to secure a finished figure with a matte varnish so that the uniform does not stay glossy.
The delivery contains the shade of paint named. Figures, brushes, thinner and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
