In 1936 the Polish army adopted a new pattern of field uniform and with it a characteristic khaki, which against the American olive has a markedly earthier cast tuned toward gray and yellow. The shade Polish Uniform Wz.36 from the Italian maker Lifecolor is a water-based acrylic paint aimed at exactly this fabric.
An earthy khaki is treacherous in that in direct sun it looks markedly yellower than in shadow, where it falls toward gray-green. On a figure you create that difference yourself: lay the base down over the whole area and then work with values, not with further colors. Brightened edges and darker folds do more for the impression of fabric than the most careful drawing of detail. Woolen cloth is also never glossy or entirely smooth, so a slight unevenness of tone is welcome.
Figure painters who build the Polish defense of 1939, and modelers of vehicles where crews and accompanying infantry need the right national shade so that the scene does not look like repainted Western material. It also serves well where Polish kit appears as captured equipment in later subjects.
Stir the contents of the package thoroughly before use. Store it well closed and out of the reach of children.
