The darker half of the classic pair of upper surfaces of German fighters is Lifecolor Luftwaffe Graugrun RLM 74, an acrylic gray-green shade.
Responsibility details are not available.
A gray-green acrylic shade that carries the number 74 in the German aircraft coding. It is the darker of the pair of colors that appear from 1941 on the upper surfaces of German fighter aircraft; the lighter counterpart carries the number 75 and the lower surfaces belonging with it the number 76.
The camouflage of fighters of this period is not a random jumble of blotches. The upper surface is divided into fields of two gray-green tones with sharp or soft transitions depending on the maker and the period, with the darker 74 usually holding the larger part of the spine and the leading areas. The sides of the fuselage then pass into a light blue and are often completed with a fine mottling of both upper shades. Anyone painting this camouflage usually starts from the lighter tone and adds the darker one over it. This shade is at the same time a good guide to how the RLM system reads a whole aircraft: the numbers do not follow the color wheel but the role the color plays on the machine.
For modelers of German fighters of the Second World War who work exactly by RLM numbers. The shade alone will not close a scheme; it makes sense in a set with its lighter counterpart and with the light blue underneath.
Keep out of the reach of children. Work in a ventilated space when spraying.
