The deck planks of Japanese warships are captured by Imperial Japanese Navy Hinoki Deck Tan, a water-based acrylic paint in a warm light beige tone. Hinoki is the Japanese cypress, a wood with a light, yellowish surface.

The wooden decks of Japanese warships were not a uniform area of one color. Depending on where the timber came from and how long it had lain at sea, the tone shifted from a fresh straw yellow all the way to a grayed beige. Imperial Japanese Navy Hinoki Deck Tan captures the first of those positions: a light, warm beige shade with a yellowish undertone, such as the wood of the Japanese cypress hinoki has. It is a water-based acrylic paint from the Lifecolor modeling range.
What hinoki is
Hinoki is the Japanese cypress, a traditional building timber valued for its fine, regular figure and its light surface. In Japanese shipbuilding it was among the domestic materials that were worked with before timber began to be imported from elsewhere. That is exactly why this deck tone has a different warmth from the deck woods of other navies: it is lighter and goes less toward red.
The shade will be appreciated by ship modelers who devote themselves to Japanese subjects of the Second World War and want decks that are historically supported, not just generally wooden. It will also serve well those who work in larger scales, where the structure of the planks is visible and the area needs a light, even base.
Keep out of the reach of children; do not swallow the paint. Ensure ventilation when spraying and protect your airways. Close the bottle carefully after use.
