Modern American warships wear a light hull gray, and that is exactly what US Modern Haze Grey has: a water-based acrylic paint for postwar and present-day vessels.
Responsibility details are not available.
The postwar US Navy abandoned the varied wartime schemes and moved to a simple, uniform gray. US Modern Haze Grey is the lighter of the pair of tones you see today on destroyers, cruisers and aircraft carriers: a cool, slightly bluish gray without a warm undertone. It is a water-based acrylic paint from the Lifecolor modeling range.
The light half of the pair
Modern American ships are not painted in a single shade. The extensive areas of the sides and the superstructures hold the lighter gray, while the horizontal surfaces and selected parts tend to be noticeably darker. If you are building a model with faithfulness in mind, you need both tones: a light gray on its own looks flat and the model loses depth. The difference between the two grays moreover keeps the shape readable even where a model has no pronounced structure and relies on color alone.
The shade is intended for modelers of present-day and postwar ships who want a hull gray matching the reference. It will also be used by collectors who are completing models in small scales, where the uniformity of the gray shows at first glance and every color shift catches the eye.
