Eight shades for the Ukrainian Su-27 in the digital camouflage introduced from 2012: blue-gray fields on the upper surfaces, a light belly, the radar cover, the bays and the wheel rims.
Responsibility details are not available.
After overhauls and upgrades from 2012 on, Ukrainian Su-27 fighters received a new coat: instead of the soft transitions of the older Soviet camouflage, a mosaic of small rectangular fields in blue and gray tones appeared on them. The pattern shifted over the years, so two aircraft from the same unit can look different depending on when they went through overhaul.
The supplier's breakdown distinguishes three blue tones for the upper surfaces that alternated across the periods: one was used from 2012, the second between 2012 and 2015 and the third came in during 2015. A pearl gray fills out the mosaic from above, a very light blue covers the lower surfaces, and a neutral gray belongs to the nose with the radar cover. The remaining two bottles are technical: a red for the inner surfaces of the bays and doors of the Su-27 family and a green for the wheel rims of upgraded aircraft.
The pixel pattern is sprayed through templates or masking tape, field by field and from the lighter tones toward the darker ones. It pays to work with a minimum of paint in the airbrush and not to overrun the edges, so that they stay sharp. Anyone who does not trust their masking can split the pattern into several stages and let the surface harden properly between them, because a fresh coat is easily pulled off by tape. In smaller scales it is enough to suggest the rhythm of the fields, as the individual squares blend together. Finally unify the whole with a thin clear coat from the same program, which evens out the pattern and prepares the surface for the decals.
