ULTRA-MATT LUCKY VARNISH 17 ml - an Acrylic Ultra Matte Varnish (AMMO of Mig Jimenez)

This is an acrylic varnish, not a paint. It has no covering power and will repaint nothing: its job is to even out the sheen of the whole model and to close the paintwork, the decals and the weathering under it into one coat with a deeply matte surface. The package is 17 ml. According to the manufacturer it can be used in two ways: straight from the bottle as a varnish on a finished model, or as a matting medium mixed into acrylic paints when you need to knock a shade back. The manufacturer states that the varnish does not yellow and does not change the shade of the paints under it.

Use

• Suitable for a brush and an airbrush; it can be applied from the bottle even without thinning.
• The order of work is fundamental: decals and enamel washes need a glossy surface beneath. On a matte surface decals silver and a wash runs into blotches. A matte varnish therefore comes right at the very end: paint, gloss varnish, decals, wash and patina, and only at the end the ultra matte varnish.
• Apply it in thin coats. Ultra matte varnishes contain a lot of matting agent, and in too thick or too wet a coat they can go white, go powdery or clog a fine detail. Two weak coats are better than one heavy one.
• Mix the bottle thoroughly before use: the matting agent settles to the bottom, and an unmixed varnish mattes unevenly.
• Let it cure fully before you start handling the model; a matte surface is more sensitive to fingerprints.
• As a matting medium: add it to an acrylic paint and mix until you reach the degree of matting you want.

Who it is for

For modelers of military hardware, aircraft, figures and science fiction who want a deep, dead matte at the end, with no glossy patches left after varnishing, decals and patinating. Given that it is an acrylic varnish, it suits those who want to avoid strongly smelling solvent chemistry as well. Anyone who wants a semi-matte or satin look will reach for a different degree of sheen.

Safety: keep out of the reach of children. When spraying with an airbrush, protect your airways (a respirator), because the aerosol is breathed in, and work in a well ventilated space, ideally in an extracted booth. Protect your eyes and skin and wash your hands after work. Close the container well after use.
