A varnish for the final coat of a model that flattens markedly more strongly than an ordinary matte varnish. It is used where even a slight reflection spoils the impression of scale: on the uniforms of figures, on tarpaulins, on dusty equipment or on the camouflaged surfaces of ground vehicles. It is not a paint and has no covering power; a finished color coat has to be underneath it.

Use

• The last coat on models where the surface is meant to look dry and dusty.
• Suppressing the sheen on textile parts, tarpaulins, straps and the components of figures.
• Evening out the surface after weathering has left areas glossy in places and matte in others.
• A base under pigments, which hold better on a deep matte than on a smooth surface.

How to work with it

A deep matte is more sensitive to the thickness of the coat than an ordinary matte varnish. Spray lightly and let each coat dry, or a whitish veil will appear that is hard to remove from dark areas. Mix the bottle really thoroughly; the flattening agent settles at the bottom and the difference between mixed and unmixed varnish is clearly visible with the ultra matte version. Try the application on a piece of surplus sprue in the same shade as the model. On places you want merely softened, rather use an ordinary matte or a mixture of the two.

For the modelers of ground equipment, dioramas and figures who want the highest available degree of matte, and for everyone left with an unwanted satin on the model by an ordinary matte varnish.

Keep out of the reach of children, use in a ventilated area and wear a respirator while spraying. Check the volume of the package, the recommended thinner and the drying time on the label.
