ULTRAMARINE BLUE - ARTISTIC DENSE ACRYLIC COLOR

Ultramarine is among the oldest and richest blue tones of the painter's palette, and AK interactive has placed it in its range of dense acrylic colors for modelers. The metal tube holds 20 ml of the mass. The color rests on an exceptionally finely ground pigment, so it has strong coverage and dries matte, on which further tones are easily layered.

What to use the blue for

• The coats and trousers of Napoleonic and colonial soldiers, where blue is the basic uniform color.
• Naval uniforms, caps and collars on figures of crews.
• The armor and cloaks of fantasy heroes, where blue is to stand out as a strong accent.
• Banners, standards and heraldic devices that need richness without a grayish veil.

Mixing and application

Ultramarine is a rewarding component for shadows: mixed into brown or black it gives them a cool cast, which on a figure comes across more naturally than mere darkening. Take it in small doses, because the pigment pulls strongly. Historically this tone was obtained by grinding a semi-precious stone and it was among the most expensive pigments of all; today's synthetic form is far more accessible, but it has kept its richness. Before applying it, work the mass up on a palette to the consistency you want.

Suitable for

It will be reached for by painters of figures and busts who build the color up in thin coats and need a rich tone without losing fine modeling. The range serves free work on canvas equally well.
