In the last months of the war German production of armored vehicles could no longer keep up with its own regulations. Vehicles left the assembly line in a red-brown base, and camouflage was sometimes applied by the unit and sometimes not at all. The six items in this package are put together for exactly that condition.
The basis is the shade of the red-brown primer corresponding to the German color standard under number 8012, that is the layer that formed the whole surface on unfinished machines. With it go a filling solution for interiors, which darkens deep places and pulls out the detail, a product for dust deposits for the undersides and the running gear, and a deposit for a medium stage of rust on bare metal. The last two items are tools: a graphite pencil lead for a metallic sheen on edges and wear points, and white chalk for suggesting a whitewash winter finish or a veil of dust.
You work from the whole to the detail. The base goes on first; once it has dried comes the accentuation of the interiors and the recesses, then dust on the lower areas and finally rust in the places where the surface is rubbed or where water stands. The metallic sheen is left until the very last and used in a minimal amount, because it is the most conspicuous thing in the whole package. Between the individual steps it is advisable to let the surface dry out thoroughly, otherwise the previous layer dissolves and the result merges into one flat area. The contents are not aimed exclusively at the end of the war: they will serve just as well on any vehicle caught in the middle of repair or rebuilding.
