Four green shades for painting figures of American soldiers from the Vietnam War, from the dark olive of the field uniforms to the lighter green of the camouflage pattern.
Responsibility details are not available.
The American soldier arrived in Southeast Asia dressed in a single-color field uniform of cotton twill in dark olive. Damp and tropical sun changed it within a few weeks, though — the color faded to a lighter, yellowish tone and the seams went pale first. From the middle of the 1960s a uniform with a leaf camouflage pattern was added, in which three green shades blend with brown. It is exactly that move from uniform green to a varied combination that makes figures of this era a rewarding subject.
The set contains four bottles of acrylic paint created for figures. The basis is a dark olive matching a new field uniform, and with it go a yellow-green tone for the faded areas and two further greens that make it possible to put together a multicolor camouflage pattern or to suggest the difference between trousers and a jacket from a different delivery batch.
On a figure in a small scale it is recommended to work from the darkest tone to the lightest. First the base is laid down, a dark wash is allowed to run into the folds and only then are the edges of the cloth, the pockets and the shoulder seams pulled out with a dry brush. The camouflage pattern is painted last, in small patches onto a finished base, so that it is not lost under subsequent layers. The smaller pack of four bottles is this maker's entry level among figure sets, so it will serve rather to fill out a collection in progress than as a single purchase for a whole diorama scene.
