Six lacquer tones for the blue and divided schemes of the American training squadrons. It covers the strikingly blue form, the snow pattern and the divided pattern of the later years, on single-engine and twin-engine fighters alike.

The second part of the selection for the squadrons playing the adversary goes a different way from the first. Instead of brown and green fields it bets on blue: the most conspicuous form has a saturated blue spine and lighter sides, another combines white with gray and the newest one breaks the surface up into divided areas with sharp edges. All three belong to units whose task is to imitate a foreign machine as faithfully as possible in exercises.
The blue and the snow form were carried by the single-engine F-16 of two training squadrons, and the divided pattern and some of the blue machines by the twin-engine F-15 of the third of them. The divided patterns have hard edges, so it is advisable to work with tape and to plan the order from the lightest surface to the darkest.
Lacquer paints dry quickly and form a firm layer onto which tape can be stuck sooner than with water-thinnable acrylics. Even so it pays to degrease the tape on a cloth before sticking it down, so that it does not tear off the edge of a field that is still fresh when pulled away.
