A 15x30 cm sheet 1.0 mm thick with deep grooves every 2.5 mm. A coarser board division for barns, fences and large doors.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a sheet one millimeter thick, V-grooves alternate every 2.5 mm, each one cutting 0.45 mm deep. The deeper engraving takes a thicker coat of paint and the joints stay visible even after pigmenting and dusting.
Converted, the width of a board works out at 60 mm in 1:24, 87 mm in 1:35 and 120 mm in 1:48. That matches the planks used on barn doors, paddock rails and the boarding of farm buildings. In small scales the board grows to eighteen or twenty-two centimeters, that is, a wide plank.
Before you cut the sheet, hold it against the building or against a figure. The height of an ordinary door should take about twenty grooves, and a barn door fewer; if the number comes out markedly lower, look for a finer division.
Boards look believable if they are not perfectly straight. Small scratches and knots are cut into the wood with the tip of a scalpel, the edge of the sheet can be nicked irregularly and a few boards can be set deeper. The base is a brown-gray undercoat, over it comes a stippled layer of a lighter tone and finally a glaze that runs into the joints. The gray wood of an old building is imitated well by a light pass of thinned white paint drawn vertically.
