Six acrylic paints for the French army of the Second World War. They cover the wool cloth of the uniform, the canvas of the equipment and the leather haversack and straps.

The French uniform of the end of the 1930s differed from the British and the German one at first glance. The woolen fabric was dyed a muted khaki which, according to the batch and the wear, slid now toward green, now toward mustard yellow. To that came a greatcoat of thick cloth, canvas gaiters and a helmet with a crest over the crown, whose shape stayed almost unchanged from the previous war.
It is precisely this spread that makes painting a French figure harder than is expected. No single shade existed and two figures beside each other could easily have appreciably different cloth. The set meets this by offering, beside the base green tone, a lighter canvas color and two earthy shades with which the base can be moved anywhere between the two.
The set is therefore not just a plain pair of green and brown. It is rather a range within which the modeler moves: he lays the base down, pulls it toward mustard with one of the earthy tones and, with the canvas color, instead brings out the seams and the high places. In this way a whole group of figures can be built from a single package without two of them looking the same.
On a French soldier leather took up a lot of space: the belt, the straps across the chest, the ammunition pouches, the haversack, the holster and the boots. The pair of shades in the set is for precisely that, one dark brown for the surfaces and the other a muddy brown for worn places, edges and seams.
The contents are six bottles of seventeen milliliters each. The paints belong to the third generation acrylic line, which can be applied with a brush as well as with an airbrush. On a figure it has proved itself to thin them more than would seem necessary and to build the shade up from several weak coats.
