Six acrylic shades for the green and gray camouflage patterns of the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945.
Responsibility details are not available.
The United States Marine Corps went through a change of finish during the war that the environment forced on it. While the first months were dominated by factory paints close to those of the Army, the advance into the humid tropics brought richer green tones and gray shades that sat better in the shadow of palms and among the wreckage of coastal installations. The six shades in this set cover exactly that branch, the green and gray patterns of the second half of the war.
The paints are acrylic, they come in dropper bottles and they suit an airbrush as well as a brush. They need shaking thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles in the thin binder faster than in heavier paints.
A practical note for building: camouflage patches on Marine Corps machines were often applied in the field, so their edges were neither sharp nor regular. Spray the patches from close up and at lower pressure to get soft transitions. It pays to lay the base green over the whole model first and to add the lighter and darker tones on top of it. The set holds paints only; it contains no model, no decals and no varnish.
