About product

0.6 mm Copper wire (2 m) — RP Toolz

Copper wire 0.6 mm in diameter in a 2 meter length from RP Toolz. This is not a kit but a modeling material — raw stock for making details and strengthening joints. Six tenths of a millimeter is the heavier option in this range: it is noticeably stiffer than the thin wires, so it carries a load, and in larger scales such as 1:24 or 1:35 it looks convincing where a thinner wire would disappear.

Use

  • Hydraulics and heavier lines — hydraulic circuits of landing gear, booms and lifting mechanisms.
  • Coarser cabling and plumbing on engines and machinery in large scales.
  • Pins and dowels for solid joints: wherever a heavy part (a turret, a boom, a figure limb) needs mechanical support and not just glue.
  • Load-bearing pins in resin parts — drill a hole, glue the wire in and the joint stops being the weak point.
  • Heavier grab handles and holds bent to shape.

Properties of the material

Although 0.6 mm is the heaviest of the thin diameters offered, copper stays soft and malleable — you bend the wire by hand or with pliers into the shape you want and it stays there, without the material springing back. The key advantage over plastic profiles: it does not crack or snap, and a bend can be adjusted at any time. The wire can be soldered, so it builds permanent structures, frames and runs of plumbing with solid joints.

Painting

Smooth copper is an ungrateful base for paint. Before spraying, degrease the wire with denatured or isopropyl alcohol and lay down a primer — without it the paint comes off as you handle and bend the part.

Who it is for

For modelers of military vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery, cars and motorcycles in larger scales, for diorama builders and for anyone pinning heavy resin parts and figures.

This is a modeling material, not a kit. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package. The cut ends of the wire are sharp — protect your eyes and dispose of the offcuts safely.

FAQ

In the 0.6 mm diameter it is 2 meters, the same as in the 0.5 mm version. The thinnest 0.3 mm wire comes in 3 meter lengths.

For its stiffness and for the way it looks in larger scales. It suits hydraulics, coarser lines and above all pins and dowels that have to carry a heavier part. For fine cabling the 0.3 mm is the better choice.

Yes, copper takes solder. That lets you assemble permanent structures and joints that do not depend on glue alone.

Degrease it with denatured or isopropyl alcohol and spray it with primer. On bare smooth copper the paint holds badly and peels off when the wire is bent.
