An accessory set of small imitation wing nuts for models of military vehicles. It is not a kit and not a finished model, but parts for detailing a build that is already under way. A wing nut belongs to the places that the original is tightened by hand without a wrench, and on production parts that is exactly what gets replaced by a merely suggested bump.
Two wings standing out to the sides are a shape that an injection mold with a parting line can manage only roughly. What is left on the part is an indistinct form, of which nothing often remains once the seam is sanded. A separately fitted part has both wings distinct and legible even under several coats of paint, so the joint looks like a joint and not like a sprue gate.
First cut the original detail off with a scalpel and sand the surface. Mark the center of the future hole with the point of a needle so the drill does not slip, and drill the hole with a micro drill bit in a pin vise, not in a power tool, where a fine bit breaks. Set the part in with tweezers and hold it until the drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a wire grabs. Before it dries, check that the wings are turned the same way as on the neighboring nuts, otherwise the joints look haphazard.
Choose the size according to the scale of the model. A wing nut is conspicuous because of its width, so an error in size shows up sooner than it would on a plain head. In this range the 0.7 mm designation belongs rather to the smaller scales, roughly between 1:72 and 1:48. Always compare the dimension with the spot on the model the part is to go into.
