About product

Flamm.Pz. B2 740(f) in 1:100 scale from Zebranomodel

A kit of the flamethrower conversion of a captured French heavy tank, which the German side listed under a designation with the suffix for captured French equipment, in 1:100 scale. The model goes with the base version of the tank, which the maker runs separately in the same line, so both versions can be built side by side. The small scale suits collections, small dioramas and gaming with models.

The real subject

The real subject is the French heavy tank Char B1 bis, a good number of which were left in 1940 in a condition fit for further service. The vehicles were redesignated and some of them went through a conversion in which the short gun in the hull was replaced by a flamethrower. Tanks in this form served mainly with engineer and special units, where fighting against fortified positions was reckoned with. The thick armor of the original design was retained, as were its weaknesses, namely low speed and short range.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and paint the running gear with the tracks and the side covers before you close the hull. Cut the parts off with a sharp scalpel leaving a margin and clean them up away from the sprue. For injection-molded plastic use thin modeling cement; with resin parts wash them free of release agent and glue them with cyanoacrylate. Fit the front of the hull with the flamethrower at the very end; it is the most fragile place on the model. Lay the base on thinly and spray the paint well thinned at low pressure. A single-color finish in this scale comes alive with a gentle brightening of the large surfaces and a restrained wash into the recesses.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Second World War equipment in 1:100 scale
  • Modelers who build the base and the converted version side by side
  • Builders of small dioramas and tabletop gaming groups
  • Anyone interested in less usual conversions of captured equipment

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
