1:100 T-34 mod. 1941

T-34 mod. 1941 in 1:100 scale (Zebranomodel)

A resin kit for experienced modelers in 1:100 scale. The small format suits collections of whole units as well as tabletop wargames, where a one-piece casting stands up to being picked up often. The kit has few parts, so it can be built quickly and in a larger number of pieces; the parts have to be cut off the casting blocks, cleaned and glued with cyanoacrylate.

The real subject

The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank whose combination of sloped armor, wide tracks, a powerful diesel engine and a gun of 76.2 mm caliber fundamentally influenced the development of armored vehicles. The early production form of 1941 differs from later versions in the shape of its two-man turret, the layout of the hatches and a number of small production details; in this version the commander also served the gun, which was a burden on fighting the battle. It is precisely this form of the tank that is linked with the combat operations of the first year of the war on the Eastern Front.

Building and painting tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release from the mold disappears and the paint holds. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife; nippers break resin away. Glue exclusively with cyanoacrylate, and protect your airways when sanding. On such a small model choose a delicate painting procedure: the base shade, a mild lightening of the upper surfaces, a thin wash into the shadows and only sparing dust on the running gear. Heavy weathering would swallow the small shapes.
