Resin engine nacelles for a model of the Airbus A320 in 1:144 scale. According to the name these are two engines, that is the fit for a whole aircraft. The set replaces the plastic parts of the base kit and does not form a model on its own.
The CFM56-5A is the variant with which the A320 entered service and it represents the first engine generation of the whole family. Unlike the installation on the Boeing 737, the A320 has enough ground clearance under the wing, so the cowling stayed essentially circular and the accessories did not have to be moved to the sides. That is the quickest way to tell the nacelles of the two types apart on a model. The engine hangs on a pylon set ahead of the leading edge of the wing, with the axis of the engine slightly drooped and toed relative to the longitudinal axis of the aircraft, a detail on which the building of the nacelles stands or falls. Compared with the later CFM56-5B variants the -5A version is noticeably simpler, with lower thrust and without some of the later changes to the exhaust section.
After washing the castings, cut off the casting blocks and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on glass. Dry-fit the nacelles on the pylons first and look at the model from the front: both must be at the same height and the same distance from the fuselage. The droop and toe of the engine axis is set by the pylon, so do not modify it by force; rather fine-tune the mating surface of the nacelle. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the fan blades and the intake duct before closing up, because afterwards you will not get inside. The leading lip of the intake on airliners tends to be bare metal, and a metallic shade applied onto a smooth glossy base suits it.
The set is supplied as a resin accessory, unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
