This item is not a model of an aircraft, but a small accessory: a set of wheels cast in modeling resin in 1:144 scale. The tires have the so-called weighted execution, that is a slightly sagged contact surface, as if the machine really were standing on them. It is precisely this detail that makes a standing model more believable at first glance, because plastic wheels from kits tend to be perfectly round and, in a small scale, softly rendered as well. The set is listed as the early type of wheels. The maker is Armory.
The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark was an American two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, committed to the task of attacking ground targets in any weather. Characteristic are above all the cockpit with the crew sitting side by side and the sturdy nose gear. The landing gear wheels went through modifications during service, which is why accessories distinguish an early and a later type.
Wash the wheels with lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting block off with a saw exactly in the plane of the contact surface of the tire, so that the flattening stays preserved. Sanding is done wet and with protection for your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A tire is not black, but rather a very dark gray – a purely black shade looks flat. Set the wheel rim apart with masking fluid or paint it separately before gluing it in, and at the end add fine dust on the contact surface.
This is a resin accessory, not a model of an aircraft. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package. Before buying, check that the type of wheels corresponds to the machine you are building.
